SOBCon Prize - We Have a Winner!
It’s time to announce the winner of the SOBCon, Blog Catalog and Authority Blogger SOBCon08 Competition!
I’m both happy and sad to be writing this post. Happy for the winner, but sad for all the people who entered but have not been selected, some scraping through at the very last minute. Making the selection has been tough, very tough.
I know, boo-hoo, let’s feel sorry for Chris, just give us the winner already. OK, OK
The winner is Andrew Dubber of New Music Strategies with his entry here.
Why? It was a close run thing, but we felt Andrew edged in front with a unique and reader-focused submission. Liz, chair of the selection committee and boss of all things SOBCon put it this way:
Andrew Dubber fulfilled the requirement of explaining why he found SOBCon of value and what he would add himself — and he did so focused on his readers in a totally entertaining and unique fashion. Even more, Andrew showed how creativity can expand a passive offer into a chance to invite potential clients and customers to participate in both the SOBCon offer and in his consultancy.
Thanks to Blog Catalog and SOBCon for the opportunity, and thank you to everyone who put in those great submissions. I got a real kick out of seeing what you wrote.
I look forward to meeting Andrew, and any else of you who can make it there. I’m sure it is going to be a brilliant few days in Chicago

I’m honoured and delighted. My twittersphere is abuzz. Everyone thinks it’s an April Fools gag.
It’s not, is it…?
Congratulations to Andrew! Seriously, I can’t think of anyone better to have won this prize - what he learns there he will glady share and perhaps he may even teach people a thing or two whilst he is out there.
Couldn’t happen to nicer guy.
Good choice, Dubber is a legend
Gosh, Chris! If no one else feels for you, I sure do the choice was tough. So many great entries from so many dedicated bloggers. So many folks posted entries that were intriguing and made them someone I wanted to meet. I sure hope we see some of them still.
Congratulations, Andrew! Congratulations, Chris on a great contest!
Congratulations, Andrew! Looking forward to meeting you at SOBCon. Take this amazing prize and run with it like the wind.
Congratulations, Dubber!
APRIL FOOLS! haha
Congrats Dubber.
Great choice of winner! I recall reading Andrew’s entry when he posted it and thinking, now, if this was a horse race…
I do have to admit to being particularly happy to see this prize going to a non-meta-blogger, too: for many reasons, not least of which is the high probability of loads of snapping-fresh ideas rolling out of the SOBCon confluence. Nothing like a musician to improve the social aspects of a conference, too.
Congratulations, Andrew - be sure bring a doggie-bag of goodies home to your blog, for those of us who can’t make it to Chicago.
@Dubber - Would I do that?
Well … no, it’s not an april fools
@Craig - I look forward to seeing his writeup
@Jonathan - Grand testimonial indeed, will be good to meet the legend
@Liz - Yeah I hope those who didn’t win still try to get through, would be great to meet all those great people
@Easton - Glad to see you are still going to make it
@logosamurai - What he said
@James - Heh, don’t tease the poor guy
@Jen - Good point, apparently b5 put in some music at sxsw

Good form, Dubber! I had a feeling you’d be the one to beat.
Good call, Chris and Liz. While all of the entries were decent, I thought Andrew’s stood out, as well.
Now, if anyone wants to join me, I’ll be in the other room bawling like a schoolgirl.
Hi Chris, thanks for running a great competition. Not least as you got us all thinking about what it means to be an authority blogger (and some nice ripple effects rolling out from the conversations)
Congratulations to Andrew and I look forward to seeing him there as I’m coming to SobCon anyway! I’m not going to let something like not winning two competitions stand in my way…
