Sharing a Site With Your Stumbleupon Friends

I consider myself a pretty clued up geek but since my Social Media Marketing roundup I have been learning loads about my favourite social media internet tools. One new find for me that I am quite interested in is the discovery on CornwallSEO that you can send your Stumbleupon pages to your friends

If you stumble a page and want the people who have friended you to check it out. Click the “Send to” button, it will then display all the people you can send the page to. Next time they stumble they get to see your page and a short message from you.

There is also a helpful video from Tim Nash at Venture Skills to show how to do it :)

Is that cool or what? I just tried it, hopefully my SU contacts will not hate me too much for using it.

Now this is a concern, obviously this is open to abuse, and is potentially annoying. Of course it is. Probably this is the reason why you can only hit one person at a time.

But on the other hand I think a lot of the people who are my contacts will find similar stuff interesting.

Have you used this feature? Like it or loathe it, let me know in the comments …

  1. Thanks for the link Chris. It’s amazing how many people do not know about this link.

But will spreading the word mean we are inundated with requests? I expect my friends on stumble to send me requests, so if anyone is in my network, send me the pages :)

I have not used the feature myself, but can certainly see how it is an effective tool – when it is something of great importance.

The only times I have had pages sent were when they were articles/website launches that needed a quick initial jolt.

If you just think it’s something interesting, chances are your friend will notice it on their “What’s New” page after you give it a nice review.

If my StumbleUpon friends started sending me pages every day, or even every week, I would probably consider dropping them. Save it for something important.

  5. @Lyndon – Now I know about it I can see it’s right there staring me in the face, but until now I had not noticed it :)

@Kate – Yeah it is not something to use too much but it’s nice to keep as an option :)

I’ve been using the feature for the last couple of months but I’m very selective on which posts I send out to my friends network. As you say, it leaves itself open to abuse so you’ve got to use discretion when forwarding posts to your friends to Stumble.

  13. Stumble upon is by far my favorite social bookmarking service. It brings traffic streams that never seem to end., I just hope people won’t abuse it.

I like the feature and I’ve been using it since a while. I make sure not to abuse it, so I send only what I think it’s best. After a while, you get to know which of your friends enjoy getting those pages and which ones are most probable to stumble them. However, some people forget they added me as a friend. I once sent a page to somebody, and I got a message back: this is cool, but who are you and why did you send it to me?

I’m still weary of social bookmarking sites like SU, because they seem ripe for abuse. I tried using Digg, but then became frustrated that only a few Digg users actually made an impact on which links made the front page.

But I’ve been hearing more and more about SU, so maybe it’s worth a look.

    Great post! Thanks!

I love this feature. I send stuff to my husband all the time. I’ve started to send stuff (not too often, mind you) to some of my marketing friends *if* I think they’ll like it. When they do and give it a thumbs up – it spreads faster over SU. You can see it in the traffic results.
