A Walk Around Old Broadcasting House

25072008217Jamie and I just visited the old BBC “Broadcasting House” in Leeds as a potential venue for regular Northern UK Blogging meetups.

Now I have been there and seen if for myself I am stunned that this place existed and I hadn’t been there. It’s a fantastic venue and I am definitely behind using it for meetups, and I am even considering seeing how much interest there would be in using it to run internet marketing, social media and blogging courses.

They have everything, projection screens, smart boards, video conferencing and a fantastic co-working area with nice huge Mac geeky loveliness *drool*.

Imran AliWe will be calling on the experience of Imran who has arranged quite a few geeky events in the area, which from what I hear seem to mostly consist of Nintendo Wii and/or beer, regardless of agenda … hmmm ;)

    Wow looks fantastic. If i can make it it would be great to visit. Also I’m interested in your blogging courses, sounds great.

    Thanks for the namecheck Chris - though BarCamp Leeds (http://barcampleeds.com) and OpenCoffee are **not** a boozy, videogame fest as your’re suggesting! But meetups where ideas, progjects, people and ventures often start…food & drink just helps to break the ice somewhat :)

    @Grant - It is a fantastic facility, if there is enough interest I would absolutely like to do some short courses there.

    @Imran - I guess I will just have to find out for myself :)

    That picture of the two Mac monitors, single keyboard, and clean white desk. My dream office!

    Looks great and the meetups sounds cool, count me in.

    Leeds, bah….

    Wow, what an awesome looking space, Chris! A great resource. Just be sure its wheelchair accessible so that no blogger is excluded from the meetups and other events held there.

    Chris this sounds brilliant, I was thinking about organising a few meet-ups in leeds myself but if your organising then I’d love to attend. Count me in and the building looks fab too.

    Look forward to meeting you guys.

    @Writer - I nearly put down £60 just to have access to that gear! I am going to be doing a fair amount of video this coming month and my little macbook is struggling. Hmmm … I think I just persuaded myself …

    @Andrew - Cool :) First get-together will be a group planning session I think

    @Ahmed - Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it ;)

    @Glenda - It seemed to be to me and as it is part of the University I think it has to be by law but I will double check. You are my accessibility conscience :)

    @Gaj - You too, and don’t let our group stop you organising one yourself as I am sure the North needs all the social buzz it can get.

    Chris, “Your accessibility conscience” - I love it! Sounds like a great tagline! May I borrow it?

    Absolutely, and if you are on linkedin send me your account and I will put the same on there as a testimonial too :)

    We did a similar visit in Tokyo last year and really enjoyed learning about the history of their broadcasting and tv services. It didn’t look that much different to what you’ve shown here.

    Looks great! I’m really looking forward to BarcampLeeds now, are you coming along?

  14. Zath July 28th, 2008 3:26 pm

    I’m based near York, so would definitely be interested in meeting up with some other Northern-based bloggers - Leeds and this venue in particularly sounds really good!

  15. Darren Cronian July 28th, 2008 9:51 pm

    Chris, apologies for not contacting you until now. I was in meetings most of Friday (downside of the day-job!) but I am up for the meet-up!

    Venue looks great.

    Same offer is open - if you need any help give me a shout.

    Zath and Gaj, you’re absolutely right!

    We really need to either attend events such as the Northern Bloggers UK Meetup or maybe organise some for ourselves to build up a presence in the North for bloggers!
