My Midnight Sun Adventure

Midnight Sun at Kjerringøy Norway

Midnight Sun at Kjerringøy Norway

When I heard about the midnight sun I knew this trip was going to be special. Nothing could have prepared me for how special it would actually be.

Kjerringøy is in the north of Norway, actually within the arctic circle. This means around this time of year the sun doesn’t set. 6pm feels like mid-day, midnight feels like 6pm. It is an awesome thing to witness. This causes two things to happen.

  1. Lack of sleep
  2. Lots more drinking

I had a fantastic time and the people were without exception brilliant, clever, charming, warm and friendly.

Despite the lethal levels of alcohol in our systems we also acheived a great deal. We worked on their brand, roadmap and priorities for development, marketing strategies and lots of new exciting developments.

As a web geek it can be easy to slip into thinking that everything can be done over the internet but this trip has been proof that there are times face to face is just so much better.

Thanks to my friends in Norway for having me over, it was a real blast! :)

” Despite the lethal levels of alcohol in our systems ” - We’re used to that here in the northern parts of Norway ;) Glad to see that you enjoyed out country, and welcome back!

This would be a great setting for a vampire movie… if the reverse were true. Neverending night… oooh scary.

Amazing- I’m jealous, Chris- and welcome back. And, I, too, have spent time (I won’t say ‘hiding’) on my computer, only to discover that nothing ever really replaces the face-to-face, in-person contact.

You’ve inspired me to add Norway to my list of places I want to visit.

@Lars-Christian - There was certainly no way I could ever keep up without the assistance of a stomach pump ;)

@A Tentative - In winter apparently it does flip to be mostly night, I think I saw the best part of the deal!

@Mark - If you get chance jump at it, a fantastic place :)

Thanks for sharing your wonderful experience!

I know I would enjoy a trip to Norway (with the
    stomach pump!)

I agree that meeting with friendly people face to face, sharing our voices and laughter warms our hearts and elevates our spirits…

    I’ll drink to that,

    Fran

    Hi Chris,
I have visited few Nordic countries but not Norway.
I can be just jealous about your trip. And I know people are great there.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun.

My Father used to go to Norway a lot on business when I was a kid. It always sounded like a really nice place to visit/live.

I think the 24 hours of daylight would really mess with my brain. The drinking might be necessary to get to sleep :-)

@Fran / @Terra - It was a great trip, would recommend it to anybody :)

@Rajesh - Norway is the only part of that region I have visited but it was very very cool :)

@George - Yeah I think you might be on to something, the drinking is purely medicinal ;)
