Join the Blogging Pack

Sled TeamMichael had the idea and I ran with it, now we have at last count 11 pages of bloggers who have joined in. What am I talking about? The Authority Blogger Blog Pack :)

The idea is simple, a group of bloggers who want to help you get noticed and help each other out.

  1. Add your feed and Twitter details to the thread
  2. Download the OPML file and import it into your feed reader (preferably to a folder, the file is already organized this way but relies on your software to notice). This will add all the participants feeds to your reader
  3. Follow as many of the Twitter accounts as you can manage, or choose people who seem interesting.
  4. Mark all the new feeds as read - nobody expects you to read all the archived posts!
  5. When you have 5 minutes, dip into the folder and comment, stumble or link anything that you enjoy
  6. Blogs and Twitterers that are a good match, put into your regular rotation.
  7. Please keep up to date with the OPML - It is useful for finding blogs you might have missed, I already have found quite a few gems that I will be following regularly

If this seems like something you might want to try, go add your details to the thread :)

Hmm… Sounds like very simple and good for those who wants to stumble upon good blog posts. :D I might give it a try later. Thanks.

  2. Ming May 16th, 2008 1:46 pm

I won’t pretend to understand what’s going on, but i’ll try to follow the instructions:)

Confess now, Chris: you started the Authority Blogger Pack just so you’d have a good excuse to post a pic of husky dogs, didn’t you? :)

  4. Michael Martine | Remarkablogger May 16th, 2008 3:56 pm

Great idea, Chris! I had created a forum thread on this once upon a time, but you’re getting way more traction with it. :)

  5. Jeremy Biser May 16th, 2008 4:15 pm

Very cool Chris! I just joined the forum and entered my info for the Blog Pack. Thanks!

    @Ming - That’s all we ask :)

@Jen - Yeah, you got me - I thought you might remark that Huskies are in teams not packs too ;)

    @Michael - I just have big mouth :)

@Jeremy - Cool, hope you get results and enjoy it :)

You rat! How’d I not notice that forum before? Now I have to go sign up, participate, and of course do this too. Troublemaker. :)

Chris, to someone who lives to support and cheer others on the AB Pack is tailor made. I signed up, downloaded, subscribed and have been tweeting away with gleeful abandon. Thanks for leading the pack!

This is a really interesting idea…I would’ve never thought of it myself!

Hey Chris, that’s a wonderful idea in creating a blogging pack. I can’t join it because I’m a random blogger. I blog when i have passion about the topic. I’ll follow people on twitter but that’s all I can do.

I think that Michael’s original thought was to create small, natural packs based on value and relationships. I think attempting to create one huge uber-pack isn’t going to work - there’s no relationship or value involved in being “friends” with everyone.

That’s like saying the blogosphere is your pack. Well, okay… but I don’t know most of these people. And there are a lot of people. And sure, I want to help everyone but… well, I can’t help *every*one…

It’s not an effective strategy. Michael’s is - small, like a division in a big factory. A huge pack is just a bunch of hungry wolves running loose.

Sorry to be the naysayer… but it’s worth thinking about.

Like Karen Swim I commented on the post, down-n-uploaded the .xml, added some Twitters. Guess commenting on blogs is next.

How is the word gotten out about updating the .xml for those that joined early in the game? Also, should Technorati be added to the mix?

    Cheers,
    Robert

    Chris,

I think it’s a great idea, maybe the second generation of this pack (thinking huskies like Karen, love huskies) anyway, will be to put the feeds into categories. That may be the natural progression, we’ll see.

I know that with these comments as feedback, both ChrisG and Remarkablogger will push this great idea forward!

Thanks for including me in the pack!

    Vicky H

P.S. It will be interesting to see how updates are rolled out. Luckily Chris is a uber geek :)

    Hi Chris,

It’s my first time here at your blog and I have had fun reading the posts at your archives, very informative and the information are so valuable. Thanks!

    Best,
    Pixie :)

    Hi Chris,

I just stumbled upon your post through Twitter and registered for your forum. So, I’m new to your project and it sounds like a great idea while at the same time I wonder if James Chartrand is onto something - “small, natural packs based on value and relationships”. I think he’s right, that it’s kinda hard to call the whole blogosphere your “friend” and I personally would be spreading myself a bit too thin to even attempt that (lol). ;)

Like I said though, I just came upon this so now I’ll head on over and post in the thread and then get to downloading and adding some more Twitterers that resonate w/me. Thanks Chris!!

Seems harmless enough. So far, every Cooperative Project I’ve been involved with has worked well, as long as eveyrone was sharing in the duties. This one seems as practical and benefical as all the others.

  18. blisters May 20th, 2008 2:29 pm

Wow! Such a great idea! I’ll join and add myself when i have the time. Its really a good thing, to gather together and pool resources, as well as help each other :).

Ugly, ugly idea. You are trying to game the system, and I have no respect for you or anyone who would involve themselves in such a thing.

Now that the AB list has been going for a couple days, I think that what James said is true. The list is too big. I’m not saying it’s wrong and I’m not saying Chris made a mistake with it. It is NOT wrong, just different than my original idea. And it is NOT a mistake, because it will benefit many.

  22. Kim Woodbridge May 25th, 2008 3:49 am

I agree that the list is too big but it is a really good idea. I imported it into my feedreader and am going through the sites and am only keeping the feeds for the sites that I will read regularly and comment on. Same for who I follow on twitter. But what’s great about this idea is discovering sites and people that I might not have encountered without it. For example, I met a really nice woman and had a great conversation with her this morning because she found me through the pack.
