Get Your Guest-Posts Here

I’m on a mission to increase my Technorati rank. For a while my “authority” has hovered around the 900 mark, I think I can do better. My solution will also benefit you so read on :)

What I propose to do is offer you, my lovely readers, a free guest post. To get a guest post you need to let me know that you want one and to be eligible you only need to meet one requirement and that is your blog must be confirmed to be indexed by Technorati. You can link to me with a post or if you are sure any links from your blog will show up write a comment saying why you should get one of the guest posts. That’s it :)

As well as the guest post itself you will get a link from this blog. Some great content and a link, all for free! Win-win. Seem fair?

It has to be said this was “inspired” by the 20 guest post offer over at Performancing!

This offer will last until the end of October and I will try to do as many as I can. Obviously there will be some topics I have absolutely no chance of writing on and I will not spot every single Technorati link, but hopefully I should be able to get through a good number.

If this seems like something you want to be involved in get writing your post and link to me. The sooner your post shows in Technorati the sooner I can get writing :)

Is there any way I can make this deal even better? Let me know in the comments …

Update: Thanks to Skellie I have modified the deal somewhat, allowing anyone with a confirmed Technorati indexed blog to take part without the initial linking to me. While I could have kept quiet about my motivations (Technorati rank) I think it is better to be open and it also serves as an insight into strategies you can also use.

Keep your suggestions coming, I want it to be fair so we all get something good out of this!

What a great idea. How many do you think you’ll be able to write?

    Joanna

  2. Skellie October 4th, 2007 12:16 pm

I think it goes against your authority blogger message to ask other bloggers to make a post with no value to their readers, only to you, in order to receive the guest-post.

It would be far more word of mouth worthy to simply give without expecting anything in return. More often than not this will indirectly result in more links than you would have received in the first place.

I have *plenty* of respect for you and have contributed to your Technorati rank in the past, but I think encouraging us to make posts asking for a guest-post — a post with little value to our regular readers — isn’t consistent with the philosophy you’ve made an effort to share.

  3. Chris Garrett October 4th, 2007 1:08 pm

@Joanna - I don’t know, that is part of the challenge! I have the whole of October so I should get through a fair few :)

@Skellie - I hear you and I was concerned about that. Providing it can be confirmed that links will be recorded by Technorati you can inform me through any other way. What I don’t want to happen is that I spend time writing a guest post only to find the other side of the deal doesn’t come to fruition. Make sense?

  4. Cigar Jack October 4th, 2007 1:40 pm

Great idea, but what do you know about my niche so that I might want a guest post of yours on my blog. :) Great contest and good luck.

  5. Chris Garrett October 4th, 2007 1:46 pm

I know exactly nothing about cigars other than I like the smell (my dad and granddad both smoked cigars when I was little). Hmmm … I could interview you, that could elicit a whole bunch of content aimed at the absolutely beginner :)

  6. Fred | Newest on the Net October 4th, 2007 1:53 pm

    Chris,

I would love for you to guest blog on Newest on the Net. My site is confirmed by Technorati. Additionally, I will write a post on my blog about your offer.

I hope that I get chosen!!!

    -Fred

  7. Jen / domestika October 4th, 2007 2:12 pm

And if you should get an irresistable compulsion to dash off a small post (rant?) inspired by your recent moving-house experience, of course I’d be chuffed to see your byline on my blog. No pressure. Just if you ever feel that off-topic urge coming on… ;)

  8. Chris Garrett October 4th, 2007 2:14 pm

@Fred - I just sent you a submission, it was already written for another blog but fits yours better I think :)

    @Jen - Will do :)

  9. Joanna Young October 4th, 2007 2:17 pm

@ Skellie - I think that’s a good question, but the way I was thinking about it was to write a post on the sort of things it would be interesting to hear an expert tell me and my readers about… raising some issues and maybe getting their views too… and hoping said expert took me up on the invitation! That way I’d still have opened up some interesting and valuable questions.

@ Chris - Um, feeling very un-new-media-ish in asking this, what exactly does “confirmed Technorati indexed blog” mean?

    Joanna

  10. Douglas Karr October 4th, 2007 2:25 pm

    I’d love to!

  11. Chris Garrett October 4th, 2007 2:28 pm

Good idea Joanna, that would work perfectly :)

Confirmed Technorati indexing means are your blog posts appearing in Technorati? Eg. Mine. It just means can I be sure the link back to my blog will show up, as all links are welcome of course but my main goal with this little project is to boost my Technorati count :)

  12. Chris Garrett October 4th, 2007 2:44 pm

@Douglas - you are on the list :)

  13. Joanna Young October 4th, 2007 2:49 pm

Thanks Chris. Phew. My answer’s yes to that question :-)

Just wanted to check there wasn’t some other blogging strategy I was supposed to be doing that I hadn’t discovered yet!

I’d love to have you guest write for me - will post an invitation in the next day or so.

    Joanna

  14. Cigar Jack October 4th, 2007 2:56 pm

Linked to this article and it should appear on Technorati soon.

  15. Chris Garrett October 4th, 2007 3:01 pm

@Joanna - Great stuff, let me know if there is anything specific you want me to post on :)

@Cigar Jack - Cool, do you want to go with the interview idea? I could ask a ton of questions about cigars

  16. eaon pritchard October 4th, 2007 3:01 pm

    sorry mate,
you’re dead right on a lot of stuff but this one is a poor show.
link-baiting is what it is, transparency or not.
I may well link TO you in the future, who knows, but it will be on the basis of the content and it’s share-ability/usefullness at the time.
    nice try though ;)

  17. Michael Martine October 4th, 2007 3:06 pm

Is there any way I can make this deal even better?

    1. log into PayPal.
    2. Send money to… :D

  18. aaron October 4th, 2007 3:21 pm

I’m not sure how much you know about PC gaming, but I still think this a great offer. I try to keep my blog content targeted at my audience, so I frequently have to skip blogging contests about a subject. I hope other bloggers follow you and Ryan’s lead.

  19. Peter - Software Marketing Secrets October 4th, 2007 3:22 pm

    Chris,

I want to write like you when I grow up ;-)

And in the meantime I would just love to see you as a guest author. Any ideas on how blogs are great for Software Marketing would be a great subject.

    Peter
    Software Marketing Secrets

  20. Karthik October 4th, 2007 3:36 pm

I’m just heading over to post this on my blog - really looking forward to this :)

  21. pelf October 4th, 2007 4:02 pm

Would you consider writing about the month-long blogging campaign currently on-going @ Giving Hands?

  22. Amrit Hallan - HowToPlaza October 4th, 2007 4:06 pm

    Hi Chris.

You can count me in. My blog — http://www.howtoplaza.com — doesn’t count for much right now but it is indexed by Technorati (my first post appeared on September 17). Write something short so that it doesn’t take too much of your time. If you think I can, in return I too can write a guest post for your blog. For samples you can visit http://www.contentblog.net (I’m not hyperlinking).

  23. doug m October 4th, 2007 4:17 pm

Hey Chris, Would you want to guest post for a tech blog? My site is indexed by Technorati, http://www.easytechtalk.com. Maybe I can come up with something on new media and guest post here as well.

  24. Blogging Experiment October 4th, 2007 4:18 pm

Chris, you know I’m all over it! Great idea too! Anyway, here’s why I deserve a guest post. Good luck with the offer, I’m sure you’re going to be writing a LOT.

  25. The Savvy Entrepreneur October 4th, 2007 4:32 pm

October is Anti-Procrastination Month on The Savvy Entrepreneur. I just sent an official invitation and Technorati just picked it up!! How ’bout it?

  26. Meg Meyer October 4th, 2007 4:32 pm

    Chris,

I would love to have a guest post from you! I think it would be a great feature that both my Business Coach site & Center of Muse readers would be interested in. (The post would just be at Center of Muse, but I’d cross-promote it.)

And I would love to return the favor, should you welcome guest posts on YOUR site.

    Sincerely,

    Meg

  27. Adam Snider October 4th, 2007 4:46 pm

If I can think up a topic that’s both relevant to my blog, and also something that you would be knowledgeable about, I’d love to have to do a guest post for me, Chris. I’m not that it would work for my niche, unfortunately.

  28. derek October 4th, 2007 4:59 pm

Chris, this is a great idea! I’d welcome a guest post from you on any of my three blogs and would allow you to select the one you would feel fits the best for you. One of my blogs, Dad Balance, is under the eMomsAtHome umbrella so I do not have it on Technorati but will ask Wendy about that.

My other two sites include one on personal finance and the other is my personal blog dealing mainly with blogging related information and general life posts. Both of those I know are indexed at Technorati.

Let me know what you think.

  29. Chris Garrett October 4th, 2007 5:09 pm

@eaon - You say linkbaiting like it is a bad thing? :) There is a value exchange, and I will be writing good content so the reader doesn’t get short-changed either …

    @Michael - Heh, this is a cashless transaction ;)

@aaron - I know very little about todays gaming but I have 20 some years of sentimental memories I could draw on for a retro look back ;)

    @Peter - Software marketing is a great topic :)

@Karthik - So am I, if a little daunted by what I am letting myself in for ;)

@pelf - I will certainly check it out!

@Amrit - If it is indexed by Technorati it meets the requirements, no worries about traffic in this instance :) (obv I should point out to anyone reading I won’t be writing on splogs but I think that goes without saying)

@doug - I am a geek so tech is right up my street :)

@Blogging Exp - Looks that way but no worries. Feel free to copy the idea, I mean, I did :)

@The Savvy Entrepreneur - Oh I might get round to it … joke! Getit? :)

@Meg - Cool, I should be able to do something on business coaching

@Adam - Well I love visiting Alberta, then there is always the I interview you on your blog idea I mentioned to Cigar Jack above?

    @derek - The dad one would be interesting, it’s a topic I haven’t really ever covered …

  30. Innovation Catalyst October 4th, 2007 5:11 pm

Would love for you to guest post on my blog. My blog is on innovation - creative thinking, innovation effectiveness, etc. Some of the things you’ve done on Codswallop like use of mindmapping dovetails in nicely.

  31. Andy October 4th, 2007 6:12 pm

Ok, I’m in - Pinged Technorati and it should be showing soon.

    Thanks

  32. Roger Anderson October 4th, 2007 6:29 pm

    Chris,
I have been reading your blog faithfully every day since I started blogging almost 6 months ago. I have watched as your feedreader numbers passed 2000, 3000 and now soon 4000. Your Technorati rating has climbed as well. I know that you are already getting a rating point from me so having you write a guest post would be great for my readers but would do nothing for your rating. (I myself have been stuck at about 325 for 3 weeks)
What I believe would help in our current situation is to exchange posts or guest posting opportunities. My meager audience would get the full effect of your great advice on successful blog writing and I would get a chance to be exposed to a larger audience. Perhaps a thought for your charge at 5000 feedreaders.

    Cheers - Roger

  33. Jen / domestika October 4th, 2007 7:06 pm

Thanks so much, Chris, your guest post is up on my blog now… and much appreciated it is, too! :)

  34. Dean @ Technical Itch October 4th, 2007 7:13 pm

Chris, please include my name on the list. It would be great to have you guest post on my blog.

  35. Mike Sutyak October 4th, 2007 7:19 pm

Great idea Chris, I would definitely appreciate a guest post from you. My blog is on “new” marketing and focusses on current trends including blogging, viral marketing, permission marketing, etc.

I’ve sent all of my clients I’ve set up on blogs to your site in order to get them familiar with general blogging tactics and information to get the ball rolling. Thanks!

  36. Alfa October 4th, 2007 8:31 pm

Wow! Got any ideas for a home based job search blog like mine?

  37. Cheap CIgars October 4th, 2007 9:30 pm

Ha, great idea! I wonder if it will work like you hope. Linked here and it should appear soon.

  38. SB October 4th, 2007 9:36 pm

    Hi Chris,

I would love a post from you for Blogging Blog|Tips, Tools & Toys for the Personal Blogger.

Most meta-blogs are designed for the business or professional blogger, but this one is for personal bloggers who blog for fun, not money.

I bet you could could come up with a topic you would enjoy writing for that audience.

This blog is low-ranked in Technorati, and is a low-traffic blog at present — but it has about 50 subscribers, and comes up high (sometimes first) on searches for blog posts about blogging.

  39. Yehuda Berlinger October 4th, 2007 9:45 pm

    Chris,

You’re welcome to try a guest post for my blog, but the subject is (usually) board games. I’m wondering what you would say!

    Yehuda

  40. Katie October 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

Excellent idea, Chris. I would be charmed, I’m sure, to be the recipient of one of your guest posts. Man, that’s a LOT of writing. I’ve been reading “CGONM” for about six months and have gained a lot from it.

Roger’s idea of exchaning posts sounds more manageable to me. I can’t guess how many of these babies you’ll actually be able to churn out, but it sounds daunting to me. Of course, if you’re a writing machine….

Thanks for the opportunity, and count me interested.

  41. Pat B. Doyle October 4th, 2007 10:49 pm

Chris, I would love it if you would do a guest post on my blog! I am indexed in Technorati - you can check. My blog is about blogging and making money online. Anthing remotely related to those topics would be fine for a guest post. Thanks for the opportunity, and I hope to be one of the chosen!

  42. doug m October 4th, 2007 10:56 pm

glad to see fellow geeks sticking together :). now my question is how does this work from here? i’m sure others want to know as well

  43. aidenarcher October 4th, 2007 11:08 pm

Sounds like a great idea, Chris, for anyone trying to add interest to their blog.

My new blog, “Selling Is Sex!” is about the many similarities between sex and selling. It’s 5 weeks old now, and would really benefit from a guest post from you.

“Selling Is Sex!” is not for your maiden aunt, but it’s not pornographic either. Please visit http://SellingIsSex.com and share your thoughts with me.

    Thanks.

    Aiden Archer

  44. LAChick October 4th, 2007 11:11 pm

I’ve just read your guest post about moving on Jen’s blog - I love her blog, it’s one of my favourites when it comes to reading for pleasure…most enjoyable and is a great example of how this idea can work for just about anyone.

If I can work out a way of linking to you and it being relevant to my blog then it would be great to have you write something for my girls. I’d love to read a post on your top photography tips or something like that. My girls like to read anything that expands their knowledge or makes them look more fabulous…I think you’d be more equipped to help with the former :)

  45. Cigar Jack October 5th, 2007 12:52 am

That would be great along with an interesting time I’ve had monetizing a site that can’t use Google AdSense.

  46. engtech October 5th, 2007 2:39 am

I’d love for a guest post as well, Chris.

    This is a great idea.

  47. Travis October 5th, 2007 3:00 am

Chris, I’d definitely be interested. Feel free to email me if you’d guest post on my blog.

  48. George October 5th, 2007 3:07 am

    Chris,

I already link to your posts quite often, but will be sure to link to your site again in October (probably this Sunday or Monday).

It goes without saying I would love for you to guest post on my blog ANYTIME!

This sounds like a great idea and I really hope it works out well for you.

    All the best,
    George

  49. George October 5th, 2007 3:14 am

Also, I forgot to mention… the top 5 reason I would love a guest post from you are:

    1. I love your writing.
    2. I have been a reader of yours since Performancing.
    3. My readers would love your post.
    4. Since my blog is on making money online, it is right up your alley.
    5. I can brag to all my friends ;)

  50. Jim Spencer October 5th, 2007 4:29 am

    Chris,

Love to take you up on the offer. http://www.technorati.com/blogs/webpageadvisor.com%2Fblog?reactions
Will you contact me by email and choose a topic? Lot’s of easy ones here for you to choose from.

    Cheers,
    Jim.

  51. JHS October 5th, 2007 5:16 am

Hi Chris: I’m one of your subscribers and would be delighted to exchange guest posts with you.

One of my most popular recent posts:
Thirteen “Lesser Known” Helpful WordPress Plugins
    (http://www.jhsiess.com/2007/09/12/thursday-thirteen-29-2/)

My Technorati rank was 777 until I switched to WordPress from Blogger 3 months ago. It went down 200 points — I’m still trying to figure out precisely why.

  52. Simonne October 5th, 2007 5:34 am

Please count me in, if your waiting list is not too long already. My blog is pretty much about everything, but lately I’m trying to narrow its focus on online productivity. Thank you.

  53. Chris Perrin October 5th, 2007 5:53 am

    Hiya Chris,

If you know anything about food, I would take a guest post or the interview idea you had up above for Cigar Jack. Everyone knows I love the sound of my own voice.

  54. ming October 5th, 2007 6:24 am

hey chris, i’ll draw a comic as i usually do and link to you from here: http://artmaker.blogspot.com (higher ranking) but could you write your post for my new blog http://artmakr.com

    best regards,
    Ming

  55. Alex Kay October 5th, 2007 7:18 am

    Hey Chris,
a guest post at my blog would be highly appreciated.
It’s about “men”, so I guess a topic shouldn’t be too hard to come up with.
    Thanks for your consideration :)

  56. Sharon Hurley Hall October 5th, 2007 9:11 am

Hi Chris, I would love to have a guest post from you. Since my blog is about getting paid to write (and blog) - i.e, freelancing as a business - I think my readers would really benefit from your expertise. My blog is on Technorati and I will happily include links to both this blog and the Authority Blogger Forum. This is such a great idea.

  57. Ankesh Kothari October 5th, 2007 12:24 pm

    Hi Chris,

I would love it if you could write a post for my blog! I announced this contest on my blog too…

    http://www.blogclout.com/blog/get-an-a-list-blogger-to-write-for-you/

  58. Sumesh October 5th, 2007 12:41 pm

Yeah, I guess you’re too busy already. I’ll still try:

    http://www.technorati.com/blogs/techzilo.com

Btw, love your new design - so smooth(I love all of Adriann “Adii’s” work)

  59. DazzlinDonna October 5th, 2007 1:39 pm

I deserve a guest post because I think you’re the bees knees? :D My blog is right up your alley, and it just needs that “post with an accent” touch even if it’s just once. :)

  60. Nathania - Bold Interactive October 5th, 2007 3:13 pm

  61. Joanna Young October 5th, 2007 3:41 pm

Hi Chris, I’ve posted my invite - you don’t have to answer all of my questions! But it would be great if you could come over and write for us :-)

    Joanna

  62. urbanmike October 5th, 2007 3:55 pm

    Chris,

I’d love a guest post, check out my UrbanWorkbench blog,

    http://urbanworkbench.com

  63. India Business Blog October 5th, 2007 5:38 pm

    Hey Chris,
I would love a guest post on my Business Blog. What do you think?

  64. Mark McGuire October 5th, 2007 10:46 pm

Sure, why not? I am still fairly new to the world of blogging, almost 5 months old but am starting to get some new traffic coming in daily. Not sure how or why yet but if you think you can provide a power spike to my traffic, give me a hollar!

    One question though,

to be eligible you only need to meet one requirement and that is your blog must be confirmed to be indexed by Technorati

Does this mean I have to link to you right now on my blog? I am already confirmed in Technorati but not sure what you are asking me.

  65. Dax Desai October 6th, 2007 4:03 am

Would love to get a guest post from you. I write about investing (offline mainly), but I want to get some guest bloggers to write about the online space. Not necessarily the typical “John Chow” types, but something similar to your style.

  66. Glenn October 6th, 2007 4:37 am

  67. Top Gossip Girl October 6th, 2007 4:06 pm

Hi Chris. My blog is very new (less than one month old) and it’s about the TV show Gossip Girl. If you haven’t seen the show, it’s okay. The basic premise is that a mystery character has a blog and writes about the lives of her friends on NYC’s upper east side. You could write a post about anything relating to blogs, gossip, celebrities, fashion on the show, music on the show, etc. It should be an easy and fun one if you are willing to not take yourself very seriously when writing it.

The tone of my blog is a little silly and snarky, and definitely pokes fun at the show, but in a nice way. My main demographic right now is teenagers, though judging from my subscriptions I also have some twenty-thirty year olds who are more likely to use feeds. My blog is growing pretty fast (three weeks in and nearly doubling subscribers every week) so it should be a pretty good investment for you over the next six months.

    Thank you for your consideration.

  68. fc October 6th, 2007 5:47 pm

i have linked this post on my website, hope it helps your technorati power a bit :)

  69. Erica Ross-Krieger October 6th, 2007 11:13 pm

    Hi Chris,
I am brand spanking new to the blog world and am tickled I found your blog. Within 3 weeks I seem to have managed to get authority of 4 on technorati with my blog and am beside myself with even this amount of progress. I write about Wellness issues for Entrepreneurs. Not sure if you have anything to say on the subject but boy, I would sure love to take you up on your offer. And I can certainly mention how great tips from you will add to the entrepreneurial blogger’s wellness — they have done so for me:)
    To Your Wellth, Erica

  70. NSpeaks October 7th, 2007 9:36 am

If you can take time, would love you to guest post on my blog. My Blog is Technorati Indexed Confirmed. Thanks.

  71. Jan October 7th, 2007 4:59 pm

    Hi Chris,

Long time since I commented, but I would appreciate a post from you deeply nonetheless.

When hearing “bloggers helping bloggers” I am sure one comes to mind instantly ;-)

Since I already linked to you (for the n’th time probably) are you obviously no better off accepting my invitation, but knowing you I am banking on your good heart and a little time shuffling making it possible after all :-)

  72. Ben October 7th, 2007 6:20 pm

Hi Chris - this is a cool idea. I’d love to do something similar but just don’t have the time.

I have a PR7 blog with a technorati rank of 10-20 (it varies) achieved through releasing a rather popular wordpress theme.

I’d love to have a guest post from you on it, if you can think of anything suitable. I blog about geeky entertainment (movies and games), and web design, pretty much anything that interests me :)

Looking forward to hearing from you

  73. Mandy October 7th, 2007 7:51 pm

    Hi Chris,

This is a great offer! I would love you to write a guest post for my blog. My blog is indexed on Technorati. I write about my own journey with blogging so it’s right down your street. I will write a post about this in the next day or so.

And if you choose my blog you will be my first guest blogger…and not the last hopefully!

  74. Suzanne of New Affiliate Discoveries October 7th, 2007 10:34 pm

    Hey Chris,
My blog JobMob is on Technorati, hovering with a rank around 35000. The blog is dedicated to helping people find work in Israel, the World, the Universe. Besides job advice both personal and general, there’s the occasional job & job hunting humor to keep people’s spirits up (in addition to the blog voice).

Considering that you blog alot (especially these days) about self-employment, I know you have alot of interesting topics to choose from for a guest post.

    Looking forward to it!
