FriendFeed Frenzy

FriendFeed
Never let it be said that I let a bandwagon past without at least jumping on for a short ride!

The latest shiny new thing on the block is FriendFeed. While many people are describing it as yet-another-social-network, in fact I would call it more of a friend aggregator.

Unlike MyBook and FaceSpace type services, with FriendFeed you add your various social media accounts, Twitter, Blog, Flickr and so on, and your friends can follow all your activity in one place. You follow others to do the same.

Yes, if you are following someone on Twitter and subscribe to their blog, you already get much of this content, but the nice thing is for anyone who up to now you just knew as a blog author, you get to see more of their world and personality. More three dimensional. For example you can see pictures of their latest trip, see what music they are listening to and what they just bookmarked.

Obviously not something you are going to want to spend your entire day on, but still worth a look.

You can follow me at my usual account name 🙂

  1. Great point about getting into the personalities more of people you meet online. That’s one aspect of Twitter that has been very beneficial for me. FF is definitely interesting. Just not sure I have the time for it.

  5. You know what this is? This is the digital equivalence of a promise ring. You know, it’s like a pre-engagement ring. I promise that I promise I will marry you. So instead of it being: (1) Date, (2) Propose, and (3) Marry (you know, the easy way), we add in more steps: (1) Date, (2) Promise Ring, (3) Super-duper Promise Ring, (4) Sign Love-Promise Contract, (5) Swear up and down to all that is holy that you promise, (6) Get Pre-Engaged, (7) Formally Engaged, (8) Wait 8 Years, (9) Marriage. 😀

My blog already houses all my feeds. Why do I need to add another step in? I fail to see the use of this service (unless you aren’t a blogger). Keep it simple. Makes more sense to me.

  7. From what I’ve seen at a quick look, the Flock browser already does what you can do with FriendFeed. And, my friends, followers, etc. don’t have to sign up for one more service for me to get their updates in Flock.

  9. This sounds like it could be something that’s a good idea. Sure, there are other ways to do the same thing as people have mentioned here on the comments already. But that doesn’t mean that a new site can’t possibly do it better. It’ll be interesting to see how this one pans out over time.

  11. Gotta love all these time wasters. With everyone flocking to myspace/twitter/facebook/flickr and the rest which you could endlessly go on and name. It leaves us guys who aren’t all that social to go on and make websites, make them rank, make money and have a little laugh at all the time wasting going on.
