I’ve had decent luck with sending a request to SU in order to change the category. This happened not too long ago when I had a post that I saw got stumbled but brought in very little traffic at first. The category was completely wrong and I requested a change, which was made shortly thereafter and then the traffic started coming in.

Thanks for the suggestion on searching our site links to review the categories, that wasn’t something I had ever thought to do.

Good advice there all round. I’ve generally followed the “contact StumbleUpon” method of trying to correct tags (either for my own pages that have been stumbled, or indeed any page that I think is incorrectly tagged). It can certainly have a heavy impact if a page is tagged incorrectly, and it seems to happen surprisingly regularly on StumbleUpon.

I’ve had this happen to many posts and never really knew what to do about it, this is really helpful.

I guess the big thing, once you’ve found the contact info for the person who submitted the post, is to approach them in a way that shows gratitude for stumbling, but also asks them to correct something that was done wrong. And, that takes a bit of tact.

Suggestion – use the PCP approach. Praise-correct-praise. Thank them for stumbling, ask if they’d mind correcting the category to X, then thank them again for taking an interest in your content.

I am going to try this out with w post or two today!

chris you are right this happens quite often .. some of my posts in humor category got stumbled in pornography , k-12 school, mathematics and Oceania for no obvious reasons .. I tried reporting them ..

Moderators at SU are also not really useful .. they change the topic to something more vague like ‘American-history’ , ‘Adult-K12-school’ etc .. Its best to choose the category yourself and let your friend submit the site in proper category
