First Northern UK Blogging Meet-Up - Success

Jamie talks Woopra

The first Northern UK Bloggers Meet-up took place last friday at the Old Broadcasting House, Leeds. Well, half of it, the other half was in the Dry Dock pub (see a picture of the Dry Dock in daylight) - great venues, both!

Post Northern Blogger's Meet-upI think it is fair to say a good time was had by all.

Jamie did an excellent talk about Woopra and gave out beta invites (which it seems we might not be able to legally use due to some UK/European privacy and data protection regulations, but I don’t think that is going to stop anyone).

After we ooh’ed and aah’ed over Woopra and debated the utility of it, we all did a short show-and-tell about our blogs, giving handy tips and learning more about each other in the process.

The first reports I have seen are here and here - please add your links to blog posts, video or pics in the comments if you were there :)

If you want to see pictures of what went on, check out the following locations:

It seems everyone is up for another, so if you live in or around northern UK, watch this space and join the discussion list.

Wish I lived near the even … looks like fun! Motivates me to look for a group near me (just north of San Antonio, Texas). I couldn’t help but notice … not a single woman in either group! What’s up with that?! LOL *SmiLes* Suzanne

All genders were invited, and Karyn even managed to find the venue … after the door was locked and nobody was around the let her in :( Maybe better mix next time? :)

Ohhhh no! Bummer Karyn! Hear that ladies? Next time go show’em what we’re made of! LOL If I find one here … or start one ;) I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for sharing … I’m sure it was a great learning experience that was tons of fun. Always nice to connect with like-minded peeps. *huGs* S

    Chris,

I think the trend of bloggers and Twitters meeting up is outstanding. We all learn from each other and are encouraged. I especially like the part about meeting @ the pub. Very cool, very trendy.

    Cheers!
    David

    Hi Chris,

Had a great time at the event and I look forward to meeting you all again at the next. I am going to write my thoughts about the event at http://www.didigetthingsdone.com.

All genders were invited, eh? How many genders is that?

  9. Zath August 16th, 2008 9:39 pm

It was a great event, thanks for organising it!

My write-up of the night is here - http://www.zath.co.uk/northern-uk-bloggers-meet-up/

Also thanks for your thoughts on my site - I’d been in two minds about splitting the content across several sites for a while now, I’m now veering towards concentrating on building up Zath as it is now (content-wise).

    Cheers!

    Nice one, Chris!

Great event - thanks again for organising. Assuming I’m free I’ll do my best to make the next one.

    Regards, Jon

Sounds brilliant! I’d love to get people together in the M3/M4 corridor - us ’slightly outside of a very big town’ folks need out communities!!

  14. Grant August 19th, 2008 10:32 pm

    Hi

    im so gutted i couldn’t come…

My reason/excuse was I’m moving to glasgow as ive just started college up there.

  15. Chris Garrett August 20th, 2008 9:38 am

@Suzanne - I think every region needs something like this, I am sure Tony would be only too happy to set up wiki and email list space for it :)

@David - The pub was cool, once we escaped the over-loud music … does that make me officially old?

@Andrew - Great meeting you and thanks for the write-up :)

    @brenda - Why limit it? :)

@Zath - I think it would be worth asking your readers for their input but yeah, why make your life harder while diluting it? I am sure with a lot of hard work and promotion you could make split sites work and generate more revenue but your combined site is great and I am sure will continue to be popular :)

@Jon - Hope to see you there :)

@woody - Looks like you are doing just fine with your English :)

    @Toga - Certainly will ;)

@Benjamin - If not, drive up to our all-day event :)

@Grant - Glasgow is in the North, you are welcome to come down to the next one ;)

It looks like you had a fun. Perhaps I’ll be there next time ;-)

Looks like fun. Yet another reason to want to move to the UK. :-)
