Chris Garrett on Photography?

  • How to get started in stock photography
  • Step by step from beginner to profit

There we go – a shining real-life example of how being an Authority Blogger can actually get you somewhere!

As I’m an astonishingly poor photographer, it’ll be fun to watch this new adventure of yours unfold… and perhaps learn something…

    Chris

Aside from my budding new career as a blogger I have been modeling for almost 10 years. I have done a number of stock photo shoots. My latest was just last Sunday for a company out of the UK. I have seen the stock photography biz from the talent (model) side.

I look forward to reading your comments

Congrats, Chris. I know how much you love photography. But now you’re officially blogging on as many blogs as I am, no? :)

@Steve – The modeling side is one aspect I am sure I will never get the chance to appreciate, at least without a radical makeover ;)

@raj – Is there anyone on the planet blogs on as many as you do Raj? ;)

Believe it or not, I just dropped a few contracts and am musing dropping 2-3 more so I can put more focus on my own projects (as a long-term investment). I’m now down to 2 dailies, 2 near-dailies and one “X posts per month” blog :)

Yes it’s a wise thing to make sure you invest in your own projects providing you can pay the bills in the meantime :)

    Chris,

Your going down a route here that I have been considering myself recently. Not a blog about stock photography, rather a blog about the journey of learning something new from the beginners perspective. One of the ways that I learn new stuff is to try and imaging how I would teach it to someone else. This also goes some way to re-inforcing my own knowledge of the subject. I think the whole concept has quite a different angle to it that is quite unique and I am sure will endear you to the readers who can relate to the steps in your journey from beginner to the enlighted. I’m certainly going to follow this one as I have myself in the last 12 months started down the Digital SLR route and am venturing of the ‘Little Green Box’ mode.

If you fancy a jaunt to some of the most photogenic locations around the Midhope Moors & Woodhead Pass let me know, might make for a good post on your new blogging home.

@Les – Thanks, make sure you do read it :)

@Mark – I was wondering if you were inviting me to Bulgaria for a second there ;) When I started DSLRBlog it was for a similar idea, I had just bought my 350D and was starting to learn and wanted to share my discoveries. It worked well, both blog-wise but also my own camera education was helped a great deal by explaining to others.
