Apparently there are a Brit Blog Awards. I live here and the first I knew about it was a post on The Blog Herald. Perhaps I am not as plugged in as I thought, heh. The UK-centric "Best of Brit" bloggers awards begin taking nominations on Thursday, organised by Ask.com and the Metro newspaper.Ah, Metro newspaper. The free newspaper handed out to commuters. That explains it, I haven't commuted since 2005. One of the judges is Jason Bradbury, his blog is worth checking out if you are into … [Read more...]
Samples and Review Items, Bribery or PR?
Nick over on his new ClickInfluence blog has a post up about Sending Gifts to Influencers Sending gifts to bloggers, in the hope they'll write about them may seem a potentially dangerous move. If it backfired it could certainly cause some nasty negative PR, but provided some caution, and a good helping of common sense is employed, I can't find a reason not to like it.It's an interesting topic. I remember being on the other side of the issue, the agencies I worked at regularly would be charged … [Read more...]
MyBlogLog A Magnet For Spammers
Over the weekend I received a MyBlogLog phishing email asking me to add someone I have never heard of as a co-author. While I deleted the email right away it seems the idea has worked. The spammer has attached their website to a lot of popular bloggers communities. More from John Chow This morning, while I was checking my MyBlogLog community, I noticed that another site has mysteriously appeared on the list of sites and blog I author. Bad enough? It gets worse, you don't even need to phish! … [Read more...]

Snark, criticism, attack-bait, poking wasps nests, call it what you want, while it might be an effective "link bait" strategy, it's not one I would recommend. Jeremy Zawodny Slams Widgets
Jeremy Zawodny has gotten his dislike of JavaScript Badges and Widgets off his chest With all the talk of how the web has "become writable" with advent of blogs and self-publishing tools, you'd think that we'd have a better way of getting third party content on to our sites. Given that an overwhelming number of sites that are likely running PHP or some other "dynamic" hosting setup, these least common denominator solutions just feel wrong. (This could easily be followed by a rant on problems … [Read more...]

Congratulations to Henry Abbott of True Hoop. His news? Henrys blog is Becoming Part of ESPN. Here are some choice quotes from his announcement I just signed a contract with ESPN. They now own the name TrueHoop, and I am a full-time ESPN employee ... To be honest, I wasn't looking to sell TrueHoop, and I liked owning it. But TrueHoop needed a new model (besides the zero income one) if it was going to pay my mortgage ... while the people at ESPN have shown precious little interest in monkeying … [Read more...]
Walking the Assumptions Tightrope
Do you find yourself Googling up words, phrases and especially jargon, when reading blog posts? I do. It happened to me about ten minutes ago.One of my current projects requires getting elbow-deep in Drupals innards. Drupal is a fantastic blog/community/content management platform. It has a vibrant community, that is very helpful. Quite often though the community is so soaked in the software, and so used to dealing with other Drupal experts, they make all sorts of assumptions when providing help … [Read more...]
