Why Everyone Needs a Good Butt-Kicker

Kick up the butt

There are two things you need to know about me. One is I am quite good at getting people unstuck with their online marketing or blogging problems. It’s one of the ways I make a living. The other is I am no different from any other and need a kick in the butt once in a while myself.

For me my problem is “analysis paralysis“. Recently Tom and Sheila from Centell had me do a behavior questionnaire. When they analyzed me they pretty much came to the same conclusion. If you know what holds you back, you are able to come up with solutions to combat it.

My solution? I surround myself with butt-kickers. People like Sean, Ryan, Dawud, Liz and Lyndon who each have recently had to give me a good motivational arse slapping. We all need a good wakeup whack around the rump-cheeks every so often. Now if you asked my butt-kicking friends they would tell you they want nothing to do with my butt, they don’t have to know they are your butt-kickers.

Do yourself a favor. Find yourself a good butt-kicker. You may end up sore but your future self will thank you.

Great post. One of my favorite quotes is, “Life Begins At The Edge of Your Comfort Zone.” I use this concept in my client work [marketing mentoring].

thanks for reminding me I could use a few more b-kickers on my ownpersonal team!

You are lucky to be sorroubded by such kickers. And you yourself are a great motivation for so many.

I think that the clients you have, and will secure in the future, will consider your ability to analyse a real plus as I found when we met recently. You were able to pinpoint in a relatively short time the key issues that we needed to focus on with our blogging strategy. In fact the feedback from the behavioural profile shows that in addition to your analytical ability you are also very innovative and well as having great people skills. It looks as though you have the necessary team to remind you to get going and this is something that most of us need. From my experience with you the skill set you have is just perfect for the field you are in now and I have no doubts that you will be very successful.

Great post, better self knowledge makes it a lot easier to figure out how to make progress. Butt kickers are one solution, I hope you learn and get less and less sore :-)

Nice one Chris, sometimes you kick, sometimes you get kicked…

I think it’s better if we learn about the different parts of ourselves. How is the paralysis serving you? What is the benefit for you? Perhaps you need a break.

This may be idealistic and we all have different strengths we contribute to a business. My approach has a heavy emphasis on self awareness - but your blog is several hundred times more successful than mine.

I need a butt-kicking, especially when the days seem much longer at work…

Yes! I love this idea…a good grounded butt-kicking, followed by a round of high-fives and then a few giggles and an “OK what’s the next step!”

Thanks, Chris and everyone. Being all about energy, I tend to wait for the action to arise from its own source, BUT, sometimes the block needs to be bulldozed through and THAT creates a momentum and a motivation that is YEAH! WOW! Look what i did. Next?

We all need good butt-kicking friends full of life.

    Thank you,

    Fawn

I think the hard thing is finding a ‘good’ butt-kicker. Someone who kicks your butt but doesn’t know anything about blogs or running a web site isn’t usually helpful and sometimes are just time wasters.

Yes! I totally agree! If not because of my partner and my good friends who not just kick me in the butt, but also slap me on the face so many times, I won’t be where I’m right now.

So, I’d like to thanks Aneesa, Jeremy Lee and Ernie Chen who are my inspiration and my mentors.

For those who don’t have mentors or someone who can kick em in the butt, go get one NOW!

I really believe in self-motivation. If there is any butt to be kicked….I’ll be doing the kicking.

If you can’t find anyone who will agree to be your butt-kicker, try a “virtual butt-kicker”.

A virtual butt-kicker could be a promise you make or a challenge you set for yourself publicly. If you’re a regular member of a forum, you could post a challenge there, like a certain goal you want to have achieved by a certain date.

The brave might want to up the ante by setting a “punishment” for themselves if they don’t make it. The punishment should of course be something “public” for maximum effect. Putting some cash on the line also works for some people.

Amusing post…just what I needed this morning. well not the butt kicking. That is not my problem today - somedays, but…not today. It is amazing how much time this blogging career sucks up without you noticing! And it feels like I am not getting much done!
