I think a good mix. I tend to mix content as well as I write a general topics blog that has a political slant. But my readers seem to appreciate this (I guess) becuase they tend to keep coming back.

For the most part, you can put me in the "good mix" group as well, but I do like to see well-developed ideas and in-depth topics. There's certainly nothing wrong with spreading those across a series of posts though...

I prefer a good mix of posts, just to keep things interesting. If a post is too long, however, I'll usually skim instead of reading every word. I like blog posts that have a some type of personal experience from the blogger in them.

Quality is more important than quantity. And quality doesn't have to mean long either.

Too many posts and I don't have time to read them all. Too long and I don't have time either.

I guess high quality, written concisely is best. At least that is what I want in a blog I hope to learn something from.

I'm in the "good mix" fan group, too - but it's so easy to miss out on must-reads when real life puts on a time crunch, there's much to be said for structuring longer posts with a summary first so readers can better choose how to invest their time to match their interests. One of those things I keep meaning to do myself...

I would like to see the format of an overview format of the post followed by a READ MORE... but with enough info in the summary that I can gain some new insight - without the need to read the whole detailed post...

I went for a good mix too - partly because I enjoy that in other blogs I follow. I can't cope with too much brain stimulation if everyone's writing killer content, so a blend that includes short updates, photos and a few lines, a quote or something that gets me thinking but doesn't take too long are often highly valued.

I think it's also a creative way to work - how can you tell your story or make your point in 1000 words, 6 words, a podcast, a movie clip, 140 characters, a photo... All of that helps you work out your point, your message, your purpose and hopefully makes for a good experience for your readers too.

Joanna

PS I am very intrigued by the Nick Cernis model though - he writes about one post a month maybe, but it's brilliant, establishes his authority, and gets a ton of comments that keep coming over time because he doesn't displace the post. But not everyone can write like Nick...

I voted for a good mix. Many times I'll pull up a post on my RSS feed and begin reading and start thinking, Wow this is going to be Great! Then I find the post is simply a teaser, or just a brief overview of a subject ending with the question, Well what do YOU think? Extremely disappointing to say the least.

Sometimes having shorter posts is good, but some topics really need to dig deep and give as much detail as possible, loaded with links to further drive home the point (or provide proof of what is being said).

Frequency has to be adjusted for the type of reader you cater to.

My target market consists of older women who want good, dense information and find shorter, fluffier entries a waste of time.

I have found that frequent, short posts lack the quality I wish to provide.

While I really appreciate the longer posts, due to both the quality of the content and the realization of what goes into such a post, I often find myself preferring slightly shorter posts because of the time constraints on reading.

One thing that I like about shorter posts is that they often lead to additional conversation in the comments as everyone expands upon the topic.
