Automatically Link Text In Your Posts Using Blogroll Links – WordPress Plugin

My good friend Damian has just released his first plugin and it’s a corker. It goes by the name WP_LinkIt and I think many bloggers will find it useful …

WP_LinkIt as a free simple WordPress plugin to automatically convert text from your posts and pages into links from your blogroll. This makes it easy to add value your site but maximizing links to other sites and keeping them consistent throughout your site.

Now I can see several big uses I will find for this tool

  • Without editing old posts I can link to my own articles with accurate anchor text (good SEO)
  • For affiliate products I can just state the product name and have it always link to the correct affiliate, even if I change merchants – no more searching through and editing.
  • Makes it easier to link to friends, for example I can add Darren to my bloroll links and always have the name link to ProBlogger

As soon as I am back from Norway I will be trying this out.

Great work Damian!

You can download the plugin for free and find instructions on his site.

Please add your feedback here in the comments or over at his blog, as he is new to this plugin writing business I am sure he will welcome any comments, good bad or ugly :)

That looks like a good one. I like how simple it is to set up and put into use.

FYI, Another plugin that I’ve used for the same purpose is Ubernymns from http://huddledmasses.org/jaykul/ubernyms-20/

Ubernyms was originally designed to display text tips associated with a list of pre-defined acronyms. It has become much more in that you can give a list of words or phrases that become linked to whatever URLs you specify. It might be a good choice for someone who needs their blog roll for other things or needs more flexibility than WP_LinkIt and doesn’t mind the more complex setup required.

Hmmm… That sounds pretty interesting, I will have to check it out.

I like the idea of being able to change all the links on my blog/site to a particular company by making just one change.

The site is back up, there was a small problem with the service provider.

  9. @Doug Smith – With the new blogroll in recent wordpress versions and a little bit of template tweaking possibly I think Damians plugin pretty much works for most scenarios as you choose visibility when adding a link so they don’t have to display

    @Gary King – Back up now :)

@George – Yes I am going to go through my archives and find stuff that should be linked :)

@Damian – Those ISPs always choose the wrong time to go down. Seems half the time I get on Digg homepage there is some sort of hosting/dns/whatever issue
