@Bunk - I have taken your advice and so far, no illness :)

@Matt - 50!? Wowzers, and here I am with not a single one :) To be fair I do have a list of headlines in my scribefire notes but no drafts - still

@David - So-far no bugs. Move is tomorrow ... will let you know :o

@Amrit - Family and health should always come first but unfortunately that is not always the case. My little girl is back at school today and my wife is much better. Hopefully I missed this one :)

@Rajesh - Yeah it seems quite a common thing eh? :)

@James - Outsourcing is a very good idea, I don't think I could have guest posters here though

@Ari - Thanks they are doing fine now

@Adam - I still need to do that!

@Brian - Keep up the good work yourself! I have a family member who was in the fire service in the UK :)

@Brad - Calendar idea is a good one :)

@George - Good idea, sometimes I write long comments that really could be a post

@Jermayn - A lot of people do all their posts on one day but I have tried and can't get into the flow

@ming - Yeah I reply to emails here occasionally but a lot of them ask not to be made public

@A Blog - That would work on other blogs but this one is too much "me" I think?

@Marc - You are right, I am positive but also very risk conscious :)

@Gayla - Yup those "flow days" are absolutely gold, it's good to make the most of them :)

I love when I have those inspirational days where the content just flows. I used to post them as I wrote them, but quickly learned that "saving for a rainy day" was best.

While I can do that on most of my blogs, I do have a couple that are those that thrive more on breaking news. But even if I can get the rest posted ahead or save some in draft, cutting the workload is a real lifesaver some times.

"there is a good chance that I am going to catch that bug"

It's always wise to prepare Chris but don't be so negative!

Instead of thinking (worrying) that you will catch that bug just look yourself in the mirror and say with the utmost assertiveness "You will not catch that bug." (Yes refer to yourself in the 3rd person)

The power of the mind is infinite :)

I've never given it any thought but I suppose I could go through my emails and write 5 or 6 posts answering various questions. I could also find a couple of people who might be willing to make a few guest posts. Beyond that the only thing I'd do is write articles ahead of time by a week or two.

Not on my blog, but a blog i draw cartoons for, well, the main blogger: does exactly that,

1. get people like me to fill in with a cartoon.
2. he has these nifty 'Betcha din know' filler post
3. he has another , self interview filler called: my wishlist gameplan.
4. and he gets this other chick to write well completely not related stuff..

so in theory, this blog is always jammed packed with action.

if you're wondering, that blog(not my blog) is called: http://blogwawasan.com

5. one of the things i have done is: reply emails on my blog. (instant content)

I usually have mondays off from my 'paying job' so I write my blog posts along with my other freelance work but occasionally (like present) I work full time with no apparent spare time.

I usually try and pre-plan when it happens and write before hand, or blog about something in response to what youve read (which saves you coming up with an idea) and even use someone elses ideas (http://chrisbrogan.com/100-blog-topics-i-hope-you-write/)

Hi Chris! Sorry to hear about your family's illness. It seems like when things go wrong in our lives, they really go wrong and it just keeps piling on.

One thing I do that really relieves the stress associated with daily blogging is setting up an "editorial calender" in Google Calender. I simply plan out when I'm going to post on what day. Then, using Google Notebook, I have a posting list that gives me a basic outline of each post.

This way, if I know I'll be busy, I can pound at a few posts ahead of time and have them ready to go.

Hope everything turns out okay! I'm pulling for you!

Chris,

Sorry to hear your family is ill at such an inopportune time.

Interestingly enough, September is '<a HREF="http://lafd.blogspot.com/2007/09/september-is-national-preparedness.html" rel="nofollow">National Preparedness Month</A>', and among our <a HREF="http://lafd.blogspot.com/search/label/National%20Preparedness%20Month" rel="nofollow">daily tips</A>, many things you can mashup to encourage bloggers to prepare!

Thanks for all you do to enrich our minds regarding new media. You can count us among your many daily readers.

With wishes for wellness...

Respectfully Yours in Safety and Service,

I admit that I don't really have any sort of backup plan. I tend to write my posts the night before I post them, and don't often have any posts in reserve.

I really should keep some "backup" posts for those days that I can't think of what to write, or when I'm unable to write something fresh due to illness or scheduling conflicts.
