Hey Chris, am using Thesis for my new blog on my old site... no longer at b5's thegoldenpenicl so am blogging at www.aboutfreelancewriting.com. I was doing well with it until the day before the announcement I screwed up everything and started over... everything worked like a charm and I'm no coder.

The forum has been great, the learning curve tolerable... suspect I'll end up with a developer's lic. as I convert the rest of my sites to blog form.

(and now I need to get a gravatar?!) :)

I've always been a fan of SEO friendly and crispy clean XHTML and CSS. And just by looking at Thesis, I feel as if it is the best theme ever.

What exactly is the Cosmo theme? I have never seen a preview of it before. Is it a part of Thesis? I don't know since I haven't bought Thesis yet.

@Chris I figured people must have messed around with the settings, or tried to use an image or other element that's too big. I guess it does happen with other themes, but maybe people don't play with the options so much, since other themes usually don't have options.

@Mike Thanks Mike, but I don't use IE. I don't use Thesis on any of my sites either, but I'll keep the forum in mind if I do go ahead and buy Thesis.

@Donna - The sidebars appearing at the bottom of the screen has happened to me on many themes I've tried, but never once using Thesis.

Some people have had trouble with this in Thesis using IE6 and IE7, but there are several solutions to be found in the forum, mostly having to do with removing elements that IE chokes on.

I'd suggest that you take a look at the forum to see 1) the IE solutions, and 2) the world-class support Thesis has.

@Terry - In so much as any WordPress install can work that way - you need a plugin or Amember

@Donna - Unfortunately the same goes for any theme, end-users might not install it correctly (you have to go into both option screens and hit save, and select a column layout, so not tricky) or might mess around with it :)

@Lachy G - I disagree, especially the latest version with the "hooks" (1.3?), the code is really cool to work with. The only complaint I have is the custom.css and custom functions are not editable within WP, you have to use FTP/SSH/CPanel

I know Thesis sounds great, I'm a programmer too and from that perspective it sounds like it's really well built. Of course the design is beautiful too. When I first saw it I thought - I want that! I know everyone loves it and thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread, but there's one thing that bothers me and has kept me from seriously considering it... I have seen so many sites using what looks like the default design where the design is broken, the sidebar appears way down the bottom of the site. I'm not sure why, it's not like that commonly happens with my OS and browser configuration and resolution. But it's certainly the thing that has kept me from considering Thesis. Maybe I'll have another look though...

Chris -

Is there a way that the Thesis theme can be used with a private membership site or private blog?
